The TCR UK Touring Car Championship has announced a raft of cost-cutting measures ahead of the 2025 Season Premiere at Donington Park on the weekend of 22nd – 23rd March.
Taking into account the difficulties caused by the current UK financial and economic climate and the adverse effects this is having on the UK Motorsport Community, the championship organisers have announced a raft of cost-cutting measures that come into effect immediately:
• 2025 Full Season Entry Cost
• 2025 Calendar Update
• 2025 New Tyre Regulation
• 2025 Testing Ban Update
2025 Full Season Entry Cost
The 2025 Full Season Entry Cost has been capped at £5,000, providing a clear reduction from the 2024 and 2023 full-season entry costs.
The current difficult economic climate in the UK means that action is required to make TCR UK a more attractive option for competitors and teams in 2025, with the reduction in full season entry costs as the first step.
2025 Calendar Update
Listening to feedback provided by teams and drivers, the proposed event at Spa-Francorchamps alongside TCR Europe on the weekend of 17-18 May has now been postponed.
Whilst there is support for having an international round as part of the championship in future seasons, Silverstone has now been reinstated on the calendar for the same weekend.
This again reduces the costs of competing in the 2025 season, with no overseas event, and allows more customers the chance to compete at the home of British Motorsport, using the popular National layout.
The updated calendar can be found here: 2025 Calendar
2025 New Tyre Regulation
In keeping with the cost reduction theme, the tyre regulations for 2025 have also been updated. Where there are race weekends with two races involved, 4 new tyres only will be required. Where there are race weekends with three races involved, 6 new tyres only will be required.
The reduction in the number of tyres allocated for each race weekend format for 2025 means that this is a further cost saving for all competitors looking to take part this year.
2025 Testing Ban Update
The championship organisers have decided to remove the testing ban completely ahead of the new season.
Whilst this decision has not been taken lightly, the organisers recognise the increasing costs of providing an exclusive test day on a Friday before each of the seven TCR UK events. Compared to test sessions already available for a lower cost at all of our venues, this provides a more affordable solution.
TCR UK also feels it is unfair to impose a testing ban without guaranteeing exclusive testing at any of the venues on the 2025 calendar.
During the meeting with teams at Silverstone in October, it was clear that an increased cost of testing ahead of the 2025 season was unpopular. Therefore, the championship organisers have also respected the teams feedback when making this decision.
The measures announced today now mean that all TCR owners can drive in the most prestigious TCR championship in the UK. These efforts now align the costings for competing in TCR UK with any similar club-level championship.
TCR UK Championship Promoter Stewart Lines comments on the changes made ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
“As we close in on the start of the 2025 TCR UK Touring Car Championship season, it’s clear that the current financial climate in the UK is causing many headaches for those who want to go racing. With this in mind, we’ve announced a number of cost-cutting measures to ease the pain for current and new customers,” explained Stewart.
“Not only is TCR UK the first step into Touring Car Racing in the United Kingdom, but it’s also designed to be an affordable step as well, allowing for those who wish to progress up the ladder to go racing, regardless of age or talent. We welcome all those who have signed up for 2025 so far and look forward to welcoming more customers on board ahead of the new season.”
