Rod McGovern has confirmed he will return to the TCR UK grid at Silverstone in May.
The Irish driver will contest several of the remaining events in the 2025 season, where he will drive the ex-Carl Boardley CUPRA Leon Competicion TCR, run by Power Maxed Racing and supported by Jolt Technology Limited, an Irish company that provides shared power banks for mobile devices.
Rod made his debut in the championship during the opening weekend at Donington Park back in March, driving the second JH Racing Hyundai i30 N TCR, and that has played a significant part in his return to TCR UK.
PMR have returned to the series this year, running Junior drivers Finn Leslie and Harry Bloor. Their extensive experience of running touring cars in TCR UK and the BTCC was enough for Rod to sign with the Martin Broadhurst-led team.
Having shaken down the car recently at Snetterton, the move to buying a TCR car is part of Rod’s long-term plan to launch a full-time entry for the 2026 TCR UK season, whilst getting to know the car, team and venues better in 2025.
Rod is excited to be back racing in TCR UK and returning to Silverstone, a track he is already familiar with.
“I’m pleased to announce that I’ll return to TCR UK for the Silverstone weekend in May and beyond. My experience of the championship when I arrived at Donington Park in March was amazing and I’m very happy to be back in such a friendly and exciting paddock for more in 2025,” said Rod.
“I plan to be full-time next season, so 2025 is a learning year. I couldn’t turn down the chance to purchase the title-winning car from the last two seasons to go racing in. The CUPRA provides me with a good platform to learn and adapt to TCR racing and get more experience under my belt before 2026.”
TCR UK Championship Promoter Stewart Lines is pleased to see Rod announce his return to the championship.
“It’s great to welcome Rod back into the TCR UK paddock and to see his commitment to the championship after purchasing a very competitive TCR car. I’ve always stood by the fact that once someone has driven a TCR car, they always want to have another go,” explained Stewart
“It’s also good to see the grid expanding ahead of Silverstone, showing that interest in the championship is growing as we move on to our next event. I wish Rod all the best in his return.”
