The 2026 TCR UK Touring Car Championship reaches its penultimate event of the season with a quickfire double-header at Oulton Park this weekend (Saturday, 3 October).

With all of the action packed into a single day of competition, the picturesque Cheshire countryside is set for an intense showdown – one that could go a long way to deciding the destination of this year’s title.

Less than 50 points separates the leading four drivers heading into the weekend. And with 217 still up for grabs, all four have their eyes firmly set on being crowned TCR UK champion for the first time.

Irishman Max Hart leads the way heading into the weekend at the venue where he made his TCR UK debut way back in 2020. After three years away racing on the international scene, Hart has returned to his former stomping ground this season as part of a two-pronged assault on the UK and European championships.

An accident aboard his ALM Motorsport-run Honda Civic Type R at Monza last weekend has given the team plenty of work to do in this week’s short turnaround. But the renowned Estonian squad will be sure to have the 25-year-old’s Civic ship-shape and ready for the challenging contours of Oulton Park. Hart’s title challenge has been built on consistency, with a sole win at Snetterton allied to an impressive streak of 11 consecutive top-five finishes.

Second in the standings, a mere 17 points back, is Hart’s near namesake Max Hall. On UK weekends, the pair run their Honda Civics under the same Hall’s Racing banner. But, with a championship at stake, it’s each for their own when they hit the track.

After an up-and-down start to the season, teenage star Hall has really hit form over the past two race weekends at Donington Park with his second win of the season on the Grand Prix circuit and two further podiums. Momentum is with the Gloucestershire young gun – but the flip side of being top points-scorer last time out is having to carry maximum ballast this weekend.

Erstwhile points leader Callum Newsham has slipped to third in the standings but remains a strong contender, 27 points down on leader Hart. With four out of five pole positions to his name this year, the JH Racing man has pace to burn in his Hyundai Elantra N. But losing a win at Donington to a bodywork infringement has put the Scot on the back foot.

Completing the top four contenders is another teen sensation in the form of DT Racing Developments’ Harry Bloor. The Anglo-Spaniard scored a pair of breakthrough wins at Donington in August but was hampered by the resultant compensation weight his Honda Civic carried when the series returned to the venue a few weeks later. Shedding most of that could be just what Bloor needs to get back in the podium mix this weekend. The youngster also leads the Tom Walker Trophy standings, for rookies and other less experienced drivers.

West Yorkshireman Brad Hutchison is sure to have plenty of local support on the other side of the Pennines this weekend. The Capture Motorsport with MPH Racing driver is the leading CUPRA-mounted contender with three second-place finishes to his name this year. Currently 69 points off the championship pace, Hutchison can only be considered a long-shot for the title. But with typical tenacity, he will be giving it everything he’s got as he targets a first race win of 2026 which could catapult him back into the frame.

Also driving a CUPRA Leon VZ is Power Maxed Racing man Rod McGovern. The Irishman leads the way in the Goodyear Diamond Award, for drivers aged 40 and over. McGovern’s limited TCR experience also makes him eligible for the Tom Walker Trophy, where he is only 14 points shy of Bloor in the standings.

McGovern could wrap up the GDA title this weekend. But rivals Mark Smith (Capture Motorsport CUPRA) and Barry-John McHenry (Vannin Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS) will be looking to keep the race alive for the season finale at Brands Hatch four weeks later.

The drivers are in for an early start ahead of a busy day on Saturday. Qualifying kicks off the on-track action at 10:10hrs. Round 13 of the championship is scheduled to get under way at 12:35hrs. Then the reversed-grid race, Round 14 of the championship, is set for lights-out at 15:45hrs.

Nothing beats watching the action from trackside, but TCR UK’s live streaming service comes close to matching it. Freely available on TCR UK’s YouTube channel, all the action is streamed live around the world, with expert commentary, interviews and analysis.
