All roads lead to Brands Hatch for this weekend’s (31 October-1 November) TCR UK Touring Car Championship title decider. Just one point separates the two main protagonists heading into the event at the world famous former grand prix venue. And at least four more drivers are ready to pounce should the leading pair slip up.
The stage is set for a thrilling showdown with three races at the same circuit where this year’s championship kicked off back in April. Fourteen hard-fought races later, Max Hart leads the way by the narrowest of margins ahead of season-long rival Callum Newsham.
Coincidentally, both drivers had hard-luck stories on the 1.2-mile Indy circuit over Easter weekend. Polesitter Newsham’s JH Racing-run Hyundai Elantra N TCR was sidelined by clutch failure. The ALM/Hall’s Racing Honda Civic Type R TCR of Hart then looked set for victory until a crank sensor failed.
Undeterred, Newsham continued to be the man to beat on pace. The Hampshire-domiciled Scot has topped five out of six qualifying sessions this year, en route to three race wins and four further podium finishes. In contrast, a few low scores for the JH Racing mean that the title race is still wide open.
Hart’s campaign has been built more on consistency. His six podiums included a sole win at Snetterton as part of an incredible streak of top-five finishes. In fact, since that early retirement at Brands, Hart has never been outside the top five.
Even a late change of car to a Vannin Motorsport-run Audi RS3 LMS TCR last time out at Oulton Park – after his Honda picked up damage racing in Europe the previous weekend – couldn’t derail the Irishman. Third and fourth places (after a track-limits penalty) kept Hart’s challenge on track and he expects to continue aboard the Audi for this weekend’s season finale.
However, the momentum is with Newsham, who came close to a maximum score in Cheshire four weeks ago. Pole position, two fastest laps, a win and second place will fill him with confidence for the title showdown. The only downside is that Newsham will be laden with maximum compensation weight as a result.
Among the chasing pack, Max Hall (Hall’s Racing Honda Civic) is best placed to benefit should Hart and Newsham hit trouble. The teenage talent is another who suffered a difficult start to the season but has matured as the year has gone on. Operating under the same banner as Hart until the Irishman’s car swap, the young gun has two race wins and four further podiums to his name. A run of four straight podiums only came to end after contact when challenging at the sharp end last time out.
Hall lies 26 points behind Hart going into the weekend. With 40 points available for a win – and the regulations preventing anyone from falling back on previous dropped scores this weekend – a strong Saturday would go a long way to clawing Hall back into the fight.
Early season points leader Jenson O’Neill-Going (Power Maxed Racing Honda) also remains in contention, albeit with work to do. A costly run of non-finishes leaves O’Neill-Going 58 points off the pace. But nobody has more wins than the three chalked up by the 17-year-old in his first full season. It would be a brave punter who’d bet against O’Neill-Going adding to his tally this weekend.
Ten points down on O’Neill-Going is another teenage rising star in Harry Bloor (DTR Developments Honda). Twice a winner, realistically Bloor requires his rivals to suffer plenty of misfortune to be in with a shout of lifting the title this weekend. The Tom Walker Trophy, for rookies and other drivers without a podium finish before 2026, offers a more likely source of season-long silverware. The Anglo-Spaniard holds a narrow lead of seven points in that.
The overall title chances of Brad Hutchison (Capture Motorsport with MPH Racing CUPRA Leon VZ TCR), two points further back, are similar to Bloor: mathematically possible but a long shot. The championship stalwart has scored podiums at four of the six 2026 race weekends to date but has yet to record a win this season. The Yorkshireman would love to end the year on a high by putting that right at Brands Hatch.
Rod McGovern (Power Maxed Racing CUPRA) already has one championship sub-category sewn up and will have his eyes on another this weekend. McGovern sealed the Goodyear Diamond Award, for drivers aged 40 and over, last time out. But with limited prior TCR experience, the Irishman is also eligible for the Tom Walker Trophy, where he is Bloor’s closest challenger. The pair will also need to watch out for O’Neill-Going, another 35 points back.
Fresh from matching his best result of sixth last time out, Barry-John McHenry (Vannin Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS) completes a three-strong contingent from the Emerald Isle.
There are also returns for GDA contenders Mark Smith (Capture Motorsport CUPRA Leon VZ) and Russell Joyce (JH Racing Audi).
On-track action kicks off with Qualifying at 1105hrs on Saturday (31 October) morning. The weekend’s first race, Round 15 of the championship, then takes place that afternoon with a scheduled start time of 1342hrs. There will be two further contests on Sunday (1 November); Round 16, the weekend’s reversed-grid race, is set to go off at 1117hrs while lights out on the championship finale, Round 17, is timetabled for 1444hrs.
A spectacular weekend of action also features title deciders for TCR UK’s Civic Cup sister series and the British Truck Racing Championship, as well as a massive firework display on Sunday. It’s well worth attending in person, with a capacity crowd expected and tickets only available in advance. Professionally live-streamed coverage is also available on the TCR UK YouTube channel.
