2022 sensation Alex Ley will be back for the 2023 TCR UK Touring Car Championship, where he will take part in his first full season.

2022’s winningest driver will stay at the wheel of his Daniel James Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N TCR, however, for 2023, the team joins forces with Area Motorsport for a full-season assault on TCR UK.

Despite missing the opening two races of the 2022 season, Alex went on to claim three race wins in his debut year, taking the chequered flag at Brands Hatch on the Indy circuit, Oulton Park on the Island layout and in thrilling style at Castle Combe in the second race of the day.

Running under the banner of Area Motorsport with Daniel James Motorsport, Alex will be one of the drivers to watch this year, having made such an impact last season as the youngest driver to win a TCR UK race. Area Motorsport has already announced that both Bruce Winfield and Jamie Tonks will also be returning for the new season.

Staying with the reliable Hyundai i30 N TCR for the new season and working with both Area Motorsport with Daniel James Motorsport means that Alex has the best start to 2023 with a known car and support around him.

With new drivers, teams and TCR cars being entered this year, Daniel James Motorsport Team Principal Daniel Ley is confident about the team’s second season in the championship.

“The 2022 season surpassed our expectations and really put Alex on the map with his three wins in his debut season, something that no other driver was able to achieve last year. We never expected to end the year with three victories to Alex’s name and that’s a true testament to the hard work both Alex and the Daniel James Motorsport team put in,” Daniel explained.

“2023 is a new season and this time we are contesting all 15 rounds, joining forces with Area Motorsport. After our collaboration at the Snetterton Finale, staying with Area Motorsport presents Alex with an opportunity to grow as a driver. We expect this year to be a tough season and will be looking to make sure the Hyundai runs reliably so that Alex can maximise the chance of scoring the best points he can in each race.”

Area Motorsport Team Principal Rob Baker welcomes Alex to the team for the new season.

“Having worked with Alex and his team last year mainly with data, setup and driver coaching, we’re extremely pleased to have someone in Alex with such potential at a young age with us for the full 2023 season,” said Rob.

“Alex proved last year his quality winning the most TCR UK races in the 2022 season and he will certainly be one to watch in 2023 as he pushes to be involved in the championship fight from the very start.”

Alex sends his thanks to all his partners ahead of the new season, including the support received from Cobra Lifting Service Ltd.
