Former VW Cup Champion Andy Wilmot will make his return to the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy/TCR UK grid for the second half of the season, starting with Oulton Park on Saturday 17th July.

Having experienced a challenging day in the opening two rounds at Silverstone, where he drove a Vauxhall Astra TCR, Andy will contest the rest of the season in a Maximum Motorsport run CUPRA TCR with an eye to returning for a complete campaign in 2022.

His first outing in the car will take place at the test before the forthcoming Brands Hatch meeting on 19th and 20th June that hosts rounds five, six and seven of the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy. However, due to clashing commitments, Andy’s return will be delayed until rounds eight and nine at Oulton Park.

With a wealth of previous experience driving in a variety of saloon car series’ behind him, Andy is hoping that it won’t take him long to get up to speed in the CUPRA, a prospect he is looking forward to immensely:

“After racing the Astra at Silverstone earlier in April, I knew from that moment on I wanted to race a TCR car and be competitive. I’m therefore grateful to Stewart Lines of Maximum Motorsport for providing me the team’s CUPRA for the second half of the season.

“Having seen the development of the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy and the competitiveness of the TCR grid this year, I want to use this year to familiarise myself with the car and get a measure of the competition before coming back in 2022 for a full season and going for glory!”

Andy’s entry will be supported by his regular sponsor, KentCarBuyer.
