Area Motorsport have announced that they will field an all-Hyundai line-up for the final two rounds of the 2022 TCR UK Touring Car Championship, having started the year fielding CUPRA TCRs.

Having started the year in a CUPRA TCR, Castle Combe race winner and 2022 title contender Bruce Winfield will switch to an ex-Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR, having tested the car at Vallelunga in Italy back in September.

Leading the Goodyear Diamond Trophy is Andy Wilmot, who has also moved to Area Motorsport for the final event of the season in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, whilst three-time race winner Alex Ley joins forces with the team.

Both Ley and Adam Shepherd are in the title fight as well, giving the Rob Baker-led team four chances at securing silverware this weekend.

The team has expanded its entry over the year, having fielded FastR-backed race winners Jessica Hawkins and Jamie Tonks in CUPRA TCRs whilst Shepherd joined the team from Oulton Park back in July.

With the switch to newer Hyundai machinery and both Ley and Wilmot onboard, Baker is excited to welcome both drivers ahead of the final two races of the year on the 200 layout of the Norfolk circuit.

“Area Motorsport are pleased to announce that Alex Ley and Andrew Wilmot will join us for the final round of 2022. We’re all looking forward to them joining our team and helping them move forward wherever possible. Having worked with Alex already this year we know he’s a fantastic young talent which he’s proven this year through his multiple race wins,” explained Baker.

“Andy has had some bad luck through no fault of his own this year and we’re looking forward to working with him at the last round and helping him in every way we can. He’s displayed a great attitude even when things haven’t gone his way and it’s exactly what we like to see from our drivers.”
