2023 TCR UK Touring Car Champion Carl Boardley will return to defend his title in 2024, for what will be his second consecutive season in the championship.
The Suffolk-based driver will be back with his CUPRA Leon Competición TCR, which will continue to be run by Hart GT with CBM as in 2023.
Taking four race wins out of the 15 races that made up the 2023 season, winning at Oulton Park, twice at Knockhill and the opening race at Silverstone, Boardley showed not only impressive race-winning pace throughout the season but also consistency to round off a fantastic debut year.
As well as taking the overall title, Carl also secured the Tom Walker Trophy for new drivers to the championship as well as the Goodyear Diamond Award for drivers aged 40 or over.
Having turned his back on motorsport at the end of 2021, citing a lack of enthusiasm and a few issues away from track, Carl spent 2022 with a watching brief on several Championships before being tempted back into full-time motorsport with his debut in TCR UK last year.
The experienced, former BTCC driver and multiple National Hot Rod World Champion, is well aware that the competition never stops trying to improve and that 2024 will be a new season with new challenges ahead of him, something that he relishes.
“Having experienced TCR UK for the first time in 2023 and being new to the Championship and it’s surroundings I have only glowing things to say. I came into TCR hoping to gain back my enthusiasm and enjoyment for racing, and of course to be competitive from the outset,” explained Carl.
“After a slightly ‘rocky’ start I took the bull by the horns off track and after teaming up with Nick Hart managed to get all the finer points in place preparation-wise to enable me to do what was required on track.”
“To return for 2024 was a fairly straightforward decision from my part. With no time for any testing (other than the race weekend’s) in 2023 and having now gained a lot of data from last year we’ll be looking to raise the bar as I believe we can unlock a lot more from the car and continue from where we left off.”
Championship Promoter Stewart Lines welcomes Carl back for the new season, with the champion returning to defend his title.
“It’s a testament to the strength of TCR UK that we have the likes of Carl Boardley committing to another year, he had many options for 2024 but has chosen TCR UK as the place to be. We look forward to seeing him back on track and defending his title.”
