Chameleon Motorsport has confirmed it will enter the 2022 TCR UK Championship for the first time this weekend, when the championship heads to Donington Park for rounds three and four of the increasingly popular series for globally regulated touring cars.

Neil Trotter will join the team driving a CUPRA TCR, the former MINI Challenge competitor sampling the car at a recent test held by Maximum Motorsport – the championship promotors – where alongside 2021 MINI JCW Class title challenger Lewis Brown, the pair completed over 100 laps between them around the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

Impressed by the experience, Neil signed up for this year’s remaining 13 rounds. Supported by Garage 81, he now looks forward to getting to grips with the car before swapping to the team’s recently acquired CUPRA Leon Competición TCR later in the year and ahead of a full-season entry in 2023.

“My aim has always been to get involved with Touring Cars and TCR UK has given me the perfect opportunity”, said Neil. “I’m excited to be joining a high-profile championship and test myself against a competitive field on a comparatively affordable budget.

“Whilst I’ll be learning more about the current car at each round, I’m sure the knowledge gained will help me get up to speed in the new one, which I’m looking forward to bringing to the championship as soon as possible.”

As well as overall honours, Neil will also be eligible to compete for the Goodyear Diamond Trophy for drivers who are 40 and over, allowing him to challenge for even more silverware this year.
