2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup – WTCR champion Gabriele Tarquini has confirmed that he will be attending the TCR UK Touring Car Championship Media Day.

Taking place at Donington Park on Tuesday 28th March, where entry for the Public is free from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm, the 1994 British Touring Car Champion will be on hand during the event as both a Driver Mentor and Spokesperson for Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing.

The Italian legend, who has 38 Grand Prix starts behind him, is a popular figure who secured his only BTCC drivers’ title at the wheel of the then-controversial Alfa Romeo 155TS, which ushered in the new era of touring cars known as “SuperTouring”.

Tarquini’s tin-top success continued, winning the 2003 FIA European Touring Car Championship for Alfa Romeo and following that up with the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship title for SEAT.

After a stint in WTCC where he drove for JAS Motorsport and LADA Sport, Tarquini stepped down from racing in 2017 to help Hyundai Motorsport develop their first TCR car over the next 12 months: The Hyundai i30 N TCR.

When the TCR International Series and WTCC joined forces for 2018 to become the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, Tarquini secured his final drivers’ title in dramatic fashion in Macau at the end of that same season.

Tarquini would later step down from full-time racing at the end of the 2021 season, where he took up the role of Team Manager of the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse outfit, seeing success with the team winning the final WTCR teams’ title, while Mikel Azcona won the drivers’ crown

Whilst the full season entry list will be announced at the Media Day held at Donington Park on Tuesday 28th March, the 2023 TCR UK Touring Car Championship season kicks off at Snetterton on the 300 circuit on the 8th and 9th of April, visit https://www.tcr-uk.co.uk/ for more info and how to get involved.
