The 2022 season of the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy and TCR UK has gained another new entrant as Civic Cup star Jamie Tonks has purchased a CUPRA TCR DSG to make his debut in the series next year.

With Area Motorsport already gaining valuable knowledge of running a similar CUPRA TCR DSG for this year’s series runner up Bruce Winfield, Tonks will stay on with the team whom he drives for in the Milltek Sport Civic Cup series.

Keeping his focus on ending the 2021 campaign in style, the FAST R backed driver is already relishing the new challenge ahead of him, with testing to get underway in his TCR machine after the end of the current Civic Cup season.

The CUPRA TCR DSG driver is adopting a smart strategy of learning about the car and gaining miles under his belt whilst looking to improve as the 2022 season progresses.

“First of all, I can’t thank both Area Motorsport and my sponsor FAST R enough for giving me the chance to be able to make the next step in my motorsport career, where I will enter the exciting arena of TCR Competition,” said Tonks.

“Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to take on the chance to drive one of these fantastic TCR cars, especially having witnessed the action and excitement from this year. One benefit is that the colour scheme will also follow me!

“With next year being my debut season in a TCR car and seeing how competitive this type of racing is, I’ll be looking to learn as much as I can about the car whilst looking to improve my performance over each race weekend.”

With the news of Jamie moving up from the Civic Cup to TCR UK, Series Organiser Stewart Lines is happy to see one of the stars of the one make series progress further.

“It’s great to see another driver progress up the ladder from Milltek Sport Civic Cup series to TCR UK. Jamie has proved himself this year and I know he will do well next season.”
