JamSport Racing has confirmed that it will enter two Subaru Impreza WRX STi TCRs into the 2022 Touring Car Trophy, a move that will signify the Northampton-based team’s debut in this bourgeoning saloon car championship.

The cars have both seen action in other TCR series, including those in Europe, Italy and most recently, Australia. During the winter, the Subarus will undergo a refurbishment, test and development program to ensure they’re competitive and ready to go as soon as the 2022 season gets the green light.

Calling on its experience and successes gained in other campaigns, such as the Mini Challenge, Renault Clio Cup and BRSCC Fiesta Junior and Senior Championships, JamSport Racing has gained extensive knowledge of how to make controlled specification cars perform at their best.

Furthering their understanding of what it takes to get the most out of a TCR platformed car, this year has seen members of the team engineer the Hyundai i30N TCR owned by Maximum Motorsport and driven by Goodyear Touring Car Trophy front-runner Max Hart.

JamSport Racing’s team principal Jamie Going is quietly confident that the experience of running front-wheel-drive saloons will prove invaluable:

“Having been involved with the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy and seeing how it’s grown this season, I’m excited about next year, especially as we’ll be running a two-car team.”

“One of the positives surrounding TCR competition is how the globally-established balance of performance regulations keep the competition on a level playing field, which in turn generates close racing. Added to this, the cars and running costs represent good value for money, which is another reason why we want to be involved.

“I’m looking forward to getting hold of the cars in the next few weeks and starting out on the development program to ensure they’re competitive by the time the 2022 season begins.

“We’re not getting involved to make up the numbers. We’re there to race at the front and challenge for the title. That’s why we’ve already signed up our first driver and we’ll be announcing who it is very soon. Watch this space…”
