West Midlands-based Mark Smith will make his return to the TCR UK Touring Car Championship for the 2024 season with his Richmond Fire Motorsport run CUPRA TCR.

Having competed at both Donington Park in September and at the Brands Hatch Finale in October, Mark rounded off his efforts with a fourth-place finish in the Goodyear Diamond Award in the final race of the 2023 season.

The Richmond Fire Motorsport driver will be able to fight for honours in both the Gen 1 Cup Award, for eligible Gen 1 cars, as well as the Goodyear Diamond Award.

The West Midlands-based driver has decided that this year is the time to increase his involvement in the championship.

“I’ve seen the championship grow in recent years, with grid numbers increasing and newer Gen2 cars being brought in. But what appeals to me is that I can race my Gen 1 CUPRA TCR and be competitive for two different championships this year,” Mark explained.

“It’s great to see the hard work that Stewart and Nicki Lines, and the rest of the team at Maximum Motorsport have put in, to get the championship to this level and that the smaller teams can still compete for honours, meaning that anyone can race in TCR UK and compete for silverware.”

Championship Promoter Stewart Lines is delighted to see Mark and Richmond Fire Motorsport return to TCR UK for 2024.

“It’s great to see Mark back in TCR UK this year. Mark is a stalwart of TCR competition in the UK and I’m sure he will be a factor in the Goodyear Diamond Trophy and the Gen 1 Cup.”
