Callum Newsham is back in the TCR UK Touring Car Championship this season and is aiming to claim the 2025 title.
As the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and that’s exactly the situation for Callum this year. The TCR UK race winner stays on board with JH Racing for 2025 and will be back with the same Hyundai i30 N TCR that he used in 2023 and 2024.
Last season was a breakthrough year for the Hyundai driver, as he took six race wins, including the first win of his TCR UK career in the opening round at Brands Hatch back in April.
With five fastest laps and four pole positions to his credit, Callum was in the hunt for the title all the way to the final round and finished the season in third place in the driver’s championship.
Returning for his fourth season in the championship, the Southampton-based driver is very clear about his aims for 2025.
“I’m delighted to be back racing again in TCR UK for the 2025 season, sticking with our Hyundai i30 N TCR and amazing team of JHRacing. With what we showed last year, having the most wins and most pole positions of anyone, we are going into 2025 with high hopes,” said Callum.
“After coming third at the end of last year, our aim for 2025 is to be within a shot at the overall title.”
Callum’s father, Dave Newsham, is pleased to return to TCR UK this season, with the aim of the title as the clear focus.
“We are pleased to be back for another season in TCR UK, same car, same team. Why change a winning formula? No questions, we moved the car forward during the season, and Callum drove the wheels off it,” said Dave.
“The clear aim is winning the Championship, driver and team. Being fast is not always good enough, Carl has proved that. We need to go into the season with the mindset of the title from the first lap of the season. But most of all, we need to enjoy the season and have fun.”
JH Racing Team Principal James Hone looks forward to going one better after an award-winning 2024 season for his outfit.
“We are thrilled to be going into our third year with Callum! Following on from 2024, it feels like we have unfinished business. Callum drove superbly all year, and the statistics of what he achieved really do speak for themselves. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the year to take the overall title,” explained James.
“Again, in 2024, we progressed further with our Hyundai i30 N TCR, finding and extracting every single bit of performance in the attempt to challenge the ever-developing field of much newer and more refined cars. Last season, as a team, we won the Teams Championship & the Diamond Trophy; there is one big trophy left that we have our eyes well and truly on.”
TCR UK Championship Promoter Stewart Lines welcomes the announcement.
“After a difficult 2023 season, Callum became a title challenger in 2024. He pushed hard and gave everything in his hunt for the title despite the various challenges he and the team faced. I’m sure Callum will once again be one of the title contenders this year,” explained Stewart.
“It’s great to see Callum, Dave and James showing their support for the 2025 TCR UK season, and I look forward to seeing how driver and team perform this year.”
