Former KUMHO BMW champion Rick Kerry will make his return to touring car racing as he confirms he’ll make his debut in the 2023 TCR UK Touring Car Championship.

Rick will be driving the ex-Jamie Tonks CUPRA TCR this season, which Tonks drove to his first victory at Oulton Park in July last year. Having previously driven a CUPRA TCR in Britcar, Rick is looking forward to getting to grips with a car he is familiar with.

Rick has already seen success in rear-wheel drive tin-top competition, having won the KUMHO BMW Championship in both 2005 and 2006. This led to his debut in the BTCC the following year with a diesel-powered BMW 120 Super 2000 specification car, where he suffered what was an uncompetitive season.

More recently, Rick has been in action in the BMW Car Club Racing Series where he continued to compete with a number of BMW models before moving to Britcar.

The CUPRA driver will make his debut at Snetterton, his home event, over the Easter Weekend and is currently evaluating extending his programme to include further rounds during the 2023 season.

Having taken time out from motorsport at the end of 2021 due to ill health, Rick is ready to get back into touring car racing with TCR UK offering what he believes is his best chance to see how competitive he is in front-wheel drive cars.

“I’ve got plenty of experience of racing in rear-wheel drive machinery, mainly in BMWs for the past 20 years, however, when I decided to go back to racing, I looked for what would be the best and most equal racing to make a return in and TCR UK fits the bill,” explained Rick.

“The Championship has grown over the last two seasons and has offered both a great racing spectacle and also an affordable way to go Touring car racing. I’ll be testing the CUPRA in the run-up to the start of the season and I’m looking forward to racing in TCR UK this year as I see this offering me the best competitive option to return to racing.”

The 2023 TCR UK Touring Car Championship season kicks off at Snetterton on the 300 on the 8th and 9th April, visit https://www.tcr-uk.co.uk/ for more info and how to get involved.
