Steve Laidlaw has made the move to Area Motorsport ahead of rounds nine, ten and eleven this weekend at Croft.
Steve will drive an Area Motorsport run CUPRA Leon Competición TCR in the fourth weekend of the 2024 TCR UK Touring Car Championship.
Steve has enjoyed a positive debut in TCR UK at the wheel of the Capture Motorsport Hyundai i30 N TCR, taking two top-ten finishes at Snetterton, before improving further at Oulton Park last month, where he claimed a top-six finish in the second race of the day.
With his son Sam joining the grid this weekend, this is the first time that TCR UK has seen a father and son duo on the same grid since the championship began back in 2018.
Ahead of his debut with Area Motorsport this weekend, Steve is excited to take on this new challenge.
“Area Motorsport are a known force in TCR UK, with their success in the championship very clear. To be able to drive for Rob Baker in one of the newer generation CUPRA Leon Competición models is a great chance for me to progress further up the grid,” explained Steve.
“I’ve already made progress in the Hyundai in the last two events and I’m very grateful to Capture Motorsport for their support. I look forward to getting to grips with the CUPRA and pushing myself further forward.”
Area Motorsport Team Principal Rob Baker welcomes Steve on board.
“Having known Steve for many years since our Civic Cup days together it’s great to have him onboard for the remainder of the season,” explained Rob.
“He’s already shown positive strides forward in a short period of time in TCR UK. With some testing before Croft we’ll be looking to help him have a enjoyable second half of the season with the goal being to improve pace round by round.”
TCR UK Touring Car Championship Promoter Stewart Lines comments on Steve’s move to Area Motorsport ahead of the Croft event.
“It’s great to see Steve making the move to Area Motorsport ahead of this weekends event. I look forward to seeing him make further progress up the grid as he learns and adapts to the CUPRA,” said Stewart.
