With registrations open for entries to be lodged for the 2022 TCR UK Touring Car championship, further changes to recognise the efforts of drivers who are either rookies or non-podium finishers from the 2021 season have been introduced.

The Tom Walker Trophy, which for the last three years has been awarded to the VW Racing Cup or TCT driver that has scored the most points across the final meeting of the year, will now be awarded as a full season trophy.

All rookie drivers and drivers who did not take a podium finish last year will be eligible for the trophy, which will be awarded to the highest placed eligible driver at the end of each race, with the overall top three drivers crowned at the end of the season.

The Tom Walker Trophy is presented in honour of one of the drivers who was an exciting and important part of the VW Racing Cup, with Series Organiser Stewart Lines carrying on the tradition this year, where Bruce Winfield won the trophy at the Donington Park finale in August.

With all drivers fighting to be the next TCR UK champion next year, this also offers an incentive for those first-time drivers and those who missed out on the podium to also go for glory and take away some silverware at the end of the year.

Series Organiser Stewart Lines spoke further about the move to the trophy becoming a full-time award for next year.

“Tom was a lovely guy and a good friend who was totally passionate about his racing with the VW Racing Cup, Maximum Motorsport and his outings in a TCR car. It is only fitting that we keep his memory going for now and the future, so he is never forgotten. This hopefully will carry on his legacy for many years to come”
