Maximum Motorsport, who run the Touring Car Trophy (TCT), TCR-UK and the Volkswagen Racing Cup today have announced a big shake up for the 2020 season. Working alongside the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC), a new calendar has been compiled which features seven action-packed weekends.
The calendar includes many of the UKs most popular circuits including Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Silverstone and crucially doesn’t conflict with any BTCC weekends. This gives teams and drivers from Britain’s biggest motorsport series the opportunity to also enter the Touring Car Trophy which is being seen as a perfect feeder series into the BTCC since it offers touring car performance at a fraction of the budget.
2019 was the first season for the TCT and it proved that there is a gap in motorsport for another touring car series with top teams and drivers getting involved. 2020 will grow on this with aims of 20 cars on the grid.
The TCT will allow race cars from the current generation of BTCC as well as previous Touring cars and TCR cars to all compete in the same race as part of a single championship and will be the headline event during race weekends with a number of BRSCC support series accompanying the TCT including the VW Racing Cup.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup celebrates its 20-year anniversary in 2020 and already looks like it’s going to be a great year for the series with a grid of 25 cars expected and being on the same package as the TCT allows teams to run cars from both championships together which in turn makes the VW cup a great entry series into the TCT.
Championship promoter, Stewart Lines said “Our team at Maximum Motorsport have worked hard to get to this stage and we aim to provide a fantastic and affordable platform to race touring cars and Volkswagen Cup cars in 2020 .”
