Bruce Winfield made his intentions clear during the Free Practice session for the penultimate race day of the Maximum Networks Volkswagen Racing Cup incorporating the Goodyear Touring Car Trophy & TCR UK at Anglesey.

Winfield made his stake for the top spot in the session late with Alex Kite setting the fastest times early on as he further acclimatised to the Opel Astra whilst Hugo Cook was in the mix in the Audi RS3 LMS.

Kite lowered the fastest time to a respectable time of 1:38.509 just before both Jac Constable and points leader Lewis Kent began a session-long battle to set the faster times between the Hyundai and the CUPRA respectively.

With the session halfway complete, Winfield played his ace and set a quicker time of 1:32.871 and going one second quicker than Constable in the process, sending a wake-up call to the rest of the field, with Lewis Kent, Constable and Kite trying to keep up with the CUPRA DSG.

Title contender Max Hart set his competitive times late on in the session as he put his Hyundai inside the top five with fellow challenger Dan Kirby also showing that he was on pace in his CUPRA as the field closed up with the time ticking down to zero.

Winfield sent a signal out in the dying seconds of the session as he posted a new time of 1:31.839 to stay ahead of Constable by six-tenths of a second with Hart, Kirby and Lewis Kenty completing the top five.

Brad Kent and Jack Depper managed to surpass Kite’s best time whilst Cook stayed ahead of both William Butler and Danny Krywyj who both managed to set competitive times late on in the sesison.

With eleven cars making the trip this weekend, Qualifying will be all the more important, where the livestream will take place at 11:20 am on the series Facebook page and YouTube account.
